Health Services

URB Field Research/Service Center

The clinic in Araihazar provides the local community with essential access to primary care services.

Over the course of a year, URB physicians provide outpatient care to over 30,000 individuals.

This outpatient care includes physician consultation, prescriptions, medications and basic diagnostic services. All services provided by the clinic are subsidized based on economic ability to pay. The Araihazar Center is the central clinic for the URB satellite research and clinic facilities across Bangladesh that support ongoing URB projects.


Clinical Services

Each day, URB physicians provide outpatient care to 100-120 individuals.

The community clinic in Araihazar provides subsidized clinical care for:

  • - non-communicable diseases
  • - cancer screening
  • - maternal and child health
  • - dental health
  • - eye disease
  • - clinical advice
  • - medications
  • - basic diagnostic services

The Araihazar Center occupies over 17,000 square feet of space that houses:

  • - outpatient and inpatient facilities
  • - diagnostic lab services
  • - imaging facilities
  • - data informatics services
  • - freezer and equipment rooms for research samples
  • - administrative offices that support our clinic and research teams

Alongside the work at the Araihazar Center, URB provides satellite research and community health resources across Bangladesh.


Health Education

URB team members organize regular health education events. Held in the community and at the URB medical center, in 2019 URB hosted nearly 50 health events attended by over 1,800 community members.

The URB team also trains village health workers to lead small group sessions in their respective communities.


Screening and Preventive Services

Trained staff provide preventive care services for community members that include:

  • - screening tests for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cancer
  • - regular health check-ups
  • - patient counseling through health education
These activities help prevent illnesses, disease, and other health problems, and detect illness at an early stage when treatment is likely to work best.


Maternal Health Services

Trained staff provide antenatal and postnatal care for over 1,200 women at the community medical center.
